Sriya Reddy is an actress who predominantly acts in Tamil films and sometimes in other south Indian films. She gained popularity for playing a role in “Thimiru”, a Tamil film with Vishaal. Before entering into acting, she worked as an anchor and VJ. Her debut film is “Samurai” in which the famous actor Vikram played the lead role. Apart from being an actress, she is also a producer and produces films with her husband Vikram Krishna.
The talented actress was born in Telangana, Hyderabad, India on November 28, 1983. Her father was the former Indian test cricketer “Bharath Reddy”. He was actually a keeper. She studied at Good Shepherd School. She went on to continue her degree in Ethiraj College in Chennai.

Career as a VJ
Sriya Reddy was praised for her voice by famous cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sandeep Patil during her childhood days. They used to visit her home since Sriya’s father was a fellow cricketer. Later she was offered a chance to become a VJ for Southern Spice Music, a famous music channel. Sriya had to convince her father to accept the offer since he did not like her to be distracted from her studies. Her father gave permission only after she promised him that she would continue her studies while doing the job.
The multitalented actress has said that she had to audition for the role of VJ for five times. But she won the auditions and started anchoring shows. The shows she anchored were “Phonetastic” and “Connect”. Within a short time, she gained attention among the younger viewers of the shows on SS Music and they started calling her “VJ Sriya”.
Sriya’s career as Actress
Sriya Reddy’s parents did not like the idea of Sriya acting in films. They had a particular aversion when it came to her acting in the movies. So, when she was offered a role in the movie “Appudappudu” she signed her agreement during her father’s sleep. Despite the fact that her parents didn’t like her to act she had accepted the offer. Sriya Reddy’s Debut film
Even though the first offer she accepted was “Appudappudu”, “Samurai” became her debut film. It was released in 2002 a year before the Telugu film. It is a Tamil language film coming under the genre of action films and was directed by Balaji Sakthivel. Sriya had more of a supporting role in this film. After this film, she had a long break for one year since the Telugu film “Appudappudu” failed to achieve success.
“Black”- Sriya Reddy’s First Malayalam Film
In 2004, Sriya played the role of Anandham, a village girl in the film “Black” alongside “Mammootty”. She had a non-glamorous look in the film since she was playing a Tamil girl from the village coming to town to find her husband. Sriya in her real life is really stylish and this surprised many people. As the director, Renjith states, she was cast in the film because of the Dravidian look of her face. Sriya said that this film was the highest point in her career since she acted along with “Mammotty”.
She also appeared in an English film called “19 Revolutions” in the same year. The director was Sridhar Reddy who was actually from Chicago. The film did well according to the actress in the United States.
In 2005, she acted in the film “Bharathchandran IPS”. The Malayalam film had Suresh Gopi in the lead role and Sriya was cast as an IPS officer. Her acting was praised by everyone and many critics thought her acting to be similar to that of Vijayshanthi.
Thimiru- Sriya’s turning point
Sriya got her big break by acting in the film “Thimiru”. The film starred Vishaal Krishna in the protagonist role and was directed by Tarun Gopi. Sriya played a character of a loud-mouthed woman called “Easwari”. Her character was portrayed as a negative one and people were shocked by her acting. She rose to fame after the film was released.
Her other films during this period were “Amma Cheppindi”, “Oraal” and “Veyil”. Veyil is a Tamil film which was positively reviewed by critics. In that film, she acted alongside actors like Bharath and Pasupathi. The film won many awards.
Kanchivaram- a memorable film in Sriya Reddy’s career
Sriya had an important role in the art film “Kanchivaram” in which she acted with “Prakashraj”. She was nominated for several awards while the film won the National award. The film is about the poor quality of life lead by the silk weavers of Kanchipuram and in the end; the establishment of cooperative society to help them is shown.
Sriya’s Marriage life
The actress married Vikram Krishna who has previously acted in a couple of films right after the shooting of Kanchivaram was over. After his acting spree, Vikram is now a producer. They have a beautiful daughter. Interestingly, Vikram is the brother of actor Vishaal with whom she acted in “Thimiru”. She stopped acting and started co-producing films with her husband. They mostly produce the films in which Vishaal acts and their banner name is GK Films Corporation.
“Sometimes”- a comeback for Sriya
For eight years the actress took a sabbatical and then in 2016, she made a comeback with the film “Sometimes” or “Sila Samayangalil”. She has also acted in “Andaava Kaanom” as a village lady which was directed by Vadivel.
